Kitchen & Bath Remodeling in Maine
A remodel is mostly a scheduling problem. The framing, electrical, plumbing and inspection work all have to happen in an order that does not hold up the next trade, and the room is unusable for the duration — so a realistic date matters more than an optimistic one. We give you a sequence with the estimate, keep the work area sealed off from the rest of the house, and tell you the same day when something hidden changes the plan.
What the work includes
- Kitchens — cabinets, counters, backsplash, flooring and lighting
- Bathrooms — tile, vanities, fixtures, waterproofing done properly
- Flooring, trim and interior painting
- Opening or removing non-load-bearing walls
- Coordination of electrical and plumbing with licensed trades
- Dust barriers and daily clean-up while the house is lived in
- A written sequence with the estimate, so you know what happens when
What drives the price
We do not publish a flat number, because two houses the same size rarely cost the same. These are the things that actually move it, and we will show you which ones apply after we look.
- Whether the layout stays or walls move
- Whether plumbing and electrical have to be relocated
- Cabinet and counter material choices
- Tile versus a prefabricated shower base
- Whether the room is fully gutted or updated in place
- What is discovered behind the wall once it is open

Common questions
The questions we get asked most about remodeling in Maine.
How long does a bathroom remodel take in Maine?
A straightforward bathroom runs two to three weeks; one with a moved drain, new layout or custom tile can run four to six. The tile work and waterproofing are what take the time, and they are also the two things you cannot rush without regret. A shower that is waterproofed badly looks perfect for two years and then rots the wall behind it.
Can we live in the house during a remodel?
Usually yes for a bathroom if there is another one, and for a kitchen if you set up a temporary setup elsewhere. We seal the work area with plastic barriers and clean up daily. For a full-house or whole-floor remodel, we will tell you honestly if staying is unrealistic rather than pretending it will be fine.
Do you handle the permits for a remodel?
Yes. Most Maine towns require permits for kitchen and bath work that involves plumbing, electrical, structural changes or new fixtures, and the plumbing and electrical have to be done by licensed trades with their own inspections. We coordinate all of it — the permit gets issued before demolition, not after.
How do I keep a remodel on budget?
Decide the finishes before work starts, because changing your mind mid-job costs twice. Keep a contingency — fifteen percent is realistic on an older house, and the surprises are almost always behind a wall. And get the scope in writing, itemised, so "while you're in there" additions get priced as change orders instead of absorbed silently.
